RECYCLING CLOTHING
March 26 - 27
Instructor: Janet Armstrong
Course Fee: $75.00
Take your old denim and other old clothes and recycle them into new creations using your imagination and sewing techniques. Bring your sewing machine, seam ripper, needles and thread to turn a jean jacket into a vest or a tote bag for your laptop. Or convert a pair of jeans into a skirt, a dress into a top, t-shirts into longer layered shirts. Or ??? All sewing levels welcome, but to get the most out of this workshop you should be comfortable using a sewing machine.
Friday 7:00-9:00 Brainstorming session: Introductions and brainstorming: One at a time, each person holds up a garment or two and talks about why s/he brought it, and what it might become. Participants are invited to offer their ideas about each others’ garments. Emphasize that this is “green light thinking”—a free flow of ideas. It will be up to each person to decide what to do with his or her own items.
Saturday 10:00am – 4:00 pm As people arrive, they’ll set up their machines. Janet will consult with each person at that time, find out what their plans might be and offer suggestions if necessary. Once they get going, teaching or suggesting techniques will be demonstrated as required.
At various points during the day Janet will be calling the group together to see what everyone is doing so that they can learn from each other. Materials list on registration.
